Our Story
National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP)Â is a cross-disability non-profit organisation working with a range of stakeholders; to advocate for the rights of persons with disability along with encouraging their employment; increasing public awareness; creating and disseminating knowledge, information, and opportunities; and working towards easy and convenient access to all public places, products, services, and technologies.

Parliamentary Forum on Disability: India’s first ever forum on disability for Members of Parliament.
Assistive trechnology Hub: India’s first ever hub on research and innovation in Assistive Technology for People with Disabilities.
Fellowship for Youth with Disabilities: India’s first ever fellowship for youth with disabilities.
Mera Vote Mera Bharat: An exclusive campaign on political participation and representation of people with disabilities.

Design for the Disabled: NID launched a diploma program focusing on designing for people with disabilities.
Accessible Heritage: ASI committed to making all Indian historical monuments accessible to persons with disabilities.
Inclusive Government Websites: Advocacy with the Ministry of Electronics led to updated GIGW, including accessibility for mobile apps.
ICT Accessibility Standards: NCPEDP provided the foundation for the Draft Guidelines, now under review by the LITD 35 Committee.
Accessible Media Advocacy: Worked with the Ministry of Information to enforce accessibility standards for TV channels, OTT platforms, and features for blind and deaf people.
Education
UGC Initiatives for Inclusion: UGC introduced schemes to support special teacher training (B.Ed/M.Ed) and improve facilities for persons with disabilities in educational institutions.
Accessible Civil Services Exams: In 2001, UPSC held civil service exams in a fully accessible and disabled-friendly environment for the first time.
Inclusive Education Policy: NCPEDP’s advocacy ensured that the National Education Policy recognizes the needs of children and persons with disabilities.
Advocacy
Census Milestone: Disability included in India’s Population Census 2001, marking a historic step toward data-driven inclusion.
World Disability Day: December 3 became a national movement for solidarity and awareness on disability rights.
Inclusive Disaster Management: Collaborated with MSJE to develop National and State Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction Guidelines, ensuring no person with disabilities is left behind during crises.
Accessible Procurement Policy: Collaboration with the Ministry of Finance led to revised procurement rules ensuring accessibility for all.
